It’s been sooooo long since I’ve written a blog post, and with a few much needed days off this week I though it was about time that I corrected that error.
The Four Elements (I keep wanting to type ‘elephants’) was an idea that had been discussed with my co-conspirator, Tommy Martin, and during some down time we decided to take it into the studio to see what we could produce.
My intention with the make-up was to create something more editorial than theatrical, a subtle leaning towards Earth, Fire, Water and Air. In hindsight, I don’t think that it worked the way that we had originally intended but it did work on a different level.
Projects like this are always experimental and quite often the only way that you can grow and develop, as a makeup artists, is to push your own limitations and try something new. I don’t think that the learning process ever ends and if I were to do this shoot now my approach would be completely different. But then again, why plagiarise yourself when there are so many other things out there that remain undiscovered.
Makeup I used included products by Illamasqua, Nars, Urban Decay and Hourglass, with skincare from Paula’s Choice.
