Earlier this year, before an incredibly busy Summer, I was invited to collaborate on a styled vintage shoot at Muncaster Castle. Muncaster is an amazing place to visit seeping history from every nook and cranny, and to be allowed access to parts of the castle that members of the public never get to see was such a huge privilege.
Doing a lot of work behind the scenes and also taking a lead on the day of the shoot was stylist Maggi Toner-Edgar. I was able to concentrate fully on the makeup for both models going through a number of transitions as styling changed throughout the shoot.
Having ‘Vintage’ as a theme (and as with most buzz words) can mean a variety of things to different people, and my approach was to allow elements of what vintage means to me to influence the choices I made. I have become very comfortable in describing my style of makeup as editorial, over the last year or so, which is very much where I wanted to stay for this shoot. The variations that did come into play were differences in texture with splashes of colour if, or when, appropriate.
As always, all products at the time of the shoot come from cruelty free makeup brands including Nars, Illamasqua, Hourglass and Urban Decay with skincare from Paula’s Choice.
